Our Impact

Our vision is to develop innovative, scalable approaches to supporting early relational health, especially for children and families in high-risk, low-resource communities.

We envision a future in which early relational health—including perinatal and infant-parent mental health—is integrated into the routine training and practice of community and government health workers. For example, we hope to adapt and expand our approach for health workers such as Lady Health Workers in Pakistan, community health workers in El Salvador, and ASHAs and Anganwadi workers in India, enabling them to support healthy caregiver-child relationships as part of their everyday work.

We also envision SCC becoming a trusted, accessible online resource for child caregivers worldwide. The website will connect parents, health workers, teachers, and other caregivers with current scientific information on important and frequently sought-after topics such as pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, neurodevelopment, positive discipline, and supporting children in educational settings. Resources will be presented in accessible formats—including videos, podcasts, presentations, and written materials—and made available in English and, increasingly, in multiple other languages.

Ultimately, our vision is to bridge science and practice, making high-quality, culturally responsive information and support available to the child caregivers who need it most and strengthening the relationships that are foundational to healthy child development.

Testimonials

  • Srajan

My time at SCC, under the mentorship of Dr. Harrison, was one of the most meaningful chapters of my career. I was lucky to be able to work directly with the community and get a genuine ground-level understanding of how preventive mental health interventions can make real differences when grassroots programs are built around the needs of a community. SCC also provided me with the opportunity to take this community-oriented work to the international stage and to advocate for underserved populations whose voices are often left unheard. I’m very thankful for the mentorship, trust, and opportunities that I found here. They have shaped my understanding of community mental health and the kind of doctor I want to be in the future.
